Welcome to the “++Women of Houston” Photo shoot series by Ieko Media. This project was structured, planned, designed, styled, shot, and edited by Photographer & 3D digital artist, Jamiel Boling ofHoustonTexas.

Jamiel – “This shoot series was very important to me because I live in a city where there seem to be a lot of photographers coming up and very, very few of them seem to be giving fair opportunity and begs me to question the motive behind their work. As an artist I hate to see discrimination being conducted in an area of art that is dear to me. I wanted to show society that 85% of the population (90% inHouston) you are avoiding is just as beautiful and important as anyone else. I felt by using one model it wouldn’t quite seal the point I was making; so I decided to push the limits by shooting 6, not models, but model in context, individuals via a casting I conducted. Not only did I put on, conduct, and contact every submission received but I met with each person selected during the first preliminary round, and again after second round choices were made. After selections were made, I then took their measurements and purchased all of their wardrobes for the shoot. I did this because I didn’t want them to have to pay or worry about the costs. Most smaller, and sought after models, don’t pay so I felt why make these models pay. For most of them this is their first time doing a photo shoot. I received some back lash for this but I stood behind my vision and didn’t sell out. The shoot was supposed to happen a month and a half before it did but for some reason stylist/makeup artist just didn’t want to get involved. The series was about experience, which I tried to explain. I wasn’t being paid for all the work I was doing, the models weren’t paying and I expected those serious about their craft to want to be involved in something so great seeing that something like this isn’t done too often. I was even told by a stylist that I should make the models pay and I asked her why; let’s just say I didn’t like the answer. I proceeded to push forward continuing to plan and prepare. After a month of continuous posting and makeup/stylist joining and dropping out last minute, we were finally able to make it happen. Below you will find the results of the shoots. Please take some time and read what each model had to say and their experience. They aren’t working models but they are of all ages and nationalities and became models when they stepped in front of my camera. I took a straight forward shooting approach because I wanted to showcase them with distance dynamics, I didn’t want to do crazy angles because I wanted to make sure you saw them and knew exactly what and who you were looking at. 4. Why was this shoot important to you? “Because I’ve always wanted to model and this was my chance to work with a high end photographer and gain that experience – and due to gaining a lot of weight…and losing some of it…I got to embrace the ME instead of hiding behind it.”

5. How was your overall experience? “It was fun, and a learning experience I got to learn a lot – meet new people and experience what goes on during a photo shoot I loved it!”

6. What did it mean to you having this shot taken by Ieko Media? “It meant more than anyone could imagine…I’ve followed Jamiel’s work for over 5 years and to be chosen for something this spectacular was a surprise but I was very happy to have been given the chance – not many photographers give plus models that chance ..so it was very special for me.”

7. How did it feel doing a nude session for the first time at a shoot that meant so much? “Surprisingly it was more comfortable for me then the first set LOL – I rocked it haha.. I was very comfortable due to knowing Jamiel would make me look classy and everything was extremely professional… I’d do it again..I actually wish I could of done more poses and longer afterwards ..haha.”

8. What is your opinion of the photographer? “He’s AMAZING! Seeing him in his mode during the shoot was great also…he puts passion into helping you and directing you… I really appreciated that… he made me feel comfortable and confident.. he’s probably the ONLY photographer I would ever work with for something like this…well he is the ONLY one I would I appreciate his talent and idea behind this project.”

9. Did you gain any confidence in yourself after this experience? “Yes – I felt like the SHIT after leaving haha.. I felt a boost in my confidence.. and especially during the last set..I was more confident than anything.”

10. Would you recommend Ieko Media to others looking to embrace the ++ experience? “I would ONLY tell others to work w/ Ieko Media to embrace the ++ shoot experience… I trust him and his work and his vision and experience.”

4. Why was this shoot important for you? “This shoot was important to me to motivate any curvy woman and make the statement that to be Beautiful, is not the requirement to be a size 0 as many media reflects. This series is different than any other which the industry is accustomed to; it embraces curves and brings out the beauty of each individual model.”

5. How was your overall experience? “This shoot helped me grow as a person to where I now feel much more comfortable with my own body. I loved the entire process from mingling with the models and getting to know each of them on a personal level all the way through the photo shoot and learning how to connect with the photographer while still delivering what he sought.”

6. What did it mean to you having this shot taken by Ieko Media? “I was honored to have been chosen as one of the privileged models to be a part of the ++ women ofHoustonsession with such a recognized and high end company such as Ieko Media.”

7. How did it feel doing a nude session for the first time at a shoot that meant so much? “The actual shoot, the simple thought of being nude for the first time was a bit intimidating and nerve wrecking; However Jamiel and the entire team involved held such a high level of professionalism that when the moment arrived I felt extremely comfortable with Jamiel and Adriana guiding me through it.”

8. What is your opinion of the photographer? “Jamiel Boling is very professional and patient which is hard to find in an established photographer working with amateurs models, and even then he is able to deliver an exceptional level of work.”

9. Did you gain any confidence in yourself from this experience? “After this shoot my confidence has grown greatly. I love and embrace my body more than ever.”

10. Would you recommend Ieko Media to others looking to embrace the ++ experience? “I would definitely recommend Ieko Media for this and any series as Jamiel is always very professional and delivers great results that anyone who hires him will not be disappointed.”

4.  Why was this shoot important for you? “This shoot truly mean a lot to me. It was important that I was able to come out of my comfort zone and show others that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It allowed me to be comfortable within my own skin and show others that no one is perfect. My imperfections are what make me unique. =)”

5.  How was your overall experience? “This was my first ever photo shoot and the experience is . . . . Indescribable. Words cannot explain how incredible this opportunity was. From arriving with my crazy curlers in my hair to the end result with wardrobe and makeup I had a complete blast.”

6.  What did it mean to you having this shot by Ieko Media? “Before applying for this shoot I had never heard of Ieko Media. Once I applied I did some research and little did I know Jamiel Boling is an amazing artist. Having Ieko Media shoot this makes me feel comfortable that my photos won’t be abused. I’m confident that Ieko Media will use our photos for the better. Hoping Houston sees that just because your not a size 2 you can still be drop dead gorgeous.”

7.  How did it feel doing a nude session for the first time at a shoot that meant so much? – “I couldn’t believe I was actually letting someone take pictures of me nude! I was extremely nervous up to the point of posing and dropping my robe. Haha, then those butterflies went away. The chance to capture my beauty and to be proud of how I look in my ‘Birthday Suit’. It also helped knowing that Jamiel was capturing a moment in my life that I can forever remember.”

8.  What is your opinion of the photographer? “Jamiel Boling shows a true interest in his work. He is an astounding artist that is going to go far in life. His vision of this shoot really made me appreciate him that much more and not to forget his professionalism. His passion, vision, and desire to do what he loves will all pay off in the end.”

9.  Did you gain any confidence in yourself from this experience? “Most definitely! I’ve always had some sort of confidence in myself, but the confidence that I gained from this shoot no one can give me but myself. I learned to be proud and feel sexy with what God blessed me with. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I strongly believe that. I have curves and I will forever embrace them.”

10. Would you recommend Ieko Media to others looking to embrace the ++ experience? “Why wouldn’t I. I recommend anyone and everyone to embrace the ++ experience, not just with anyone but with Ieko Media!”

4.  Why was this shoot important for you? “This shoot was important to me because it’s time for the average woman to be seen. There are way more curvy women in this world than skinny stick women. Most people don’t realize that anything bigger than a size 2 is considered “plus size”. Curvy women are also beautiful.”

5.  How was your overall experience? “The experience of the photo shoot was amazing. Getting hair and makeup done was fun but it was even more fun to see each other’s hair, makeup, and outfit come together. I loved that there were women of all shapes and sizes.”

6.  What did it mean to you having this shot by Ieko Media? “Having Ieko Media shoot this was a blessing.”

7.  How did it feel doing a nude session for the first time at a shoot that meant so much? “This shoot wasn’t my first time doing nude. But doing the nude section for this shoot was really important. It meant a lot to be apart of it and show how beautiful curvy women are in all aspects.”

8.  What is your opinion of the photographer? “I have a lot of respect for the photographer. His work is amazing and he is very skilled in his talent. I love how much effort and passion he puts into his artwork.”

9.  Did you gain any confidence in yourself from this experience? “I gained a lot more confidence in myself after this shoot. It was a different level of experience that I haven’t ever had before.”

10. Would you recommend Ieko Media to others looking to embrace the ++ experience? “I would recommend Ieko Media to anyone who wants to experience the ++ shoot.”

4.  Why was this shoot important for you? “This shoot was important for me because it was the first opportunity that I had been given to work with a truly professional photographer who is as talented as he is, and I wanted to take full advantage of everything he was offering. For me it was a chance to gain some great experience in front of a camera. I have always wanted to model but didn’t know where to start. This shoot was going to be a new beginning for me and enable me to get some high quality shots that I could add to my portfolio.”

5.  How was your experience? “My experience was many things. I enjoyed meeting all the other ladies involved in the day. Everyone was very sweet and friendly. I had never gotten professional hair and make-up done before so that was a really nice part of the day. I was a bit nervous going in to the shoot, but Jamiel was very good with instructions so I was able to just relax and pose and know that he would capture some great shots. The support of the other ladies and the cheerful energy in the room was very palpable and made for an excellent day! I learned so much about myself, what I’m capable of, to be less critical of myself, to be more confident in general, to take a deep breath and take chances.”

6.  What did it mean to you having this shot by Ieko Media? “It meant the world to me. It meant a gateway to endless opportunities ahead. It meant a chance to experience high end photography with an artist who saw great things in me. It meant I would have beautiful photographs that would possibly propel a career in modeling if I chose to go that direction.”

7.  How did it feel doing a nude session for the first time at a shoot that meant so much? “Terrified yet also excited. Curious to see the finished product. I knew it would be totally classy and very tastefully done, that the finished product would be beyond what I imagined it would be.”

8.  What is your opinion of the photographer? “Jamiel Boling is kind, generous, patient, and very good at putting you at ease and making you feel confident. He’s an extremely talented person and because of this I believe his success in the future is limitless. I cannot say enough good things about Jamiel.”

9.  Did you gain any confidence in yourself from this experience? I did gain confidence in myself after this shoot. I have often wanted to pursue a career in modeling, and this shoot and this experience has bolstered my desire even more. These photos will be part of my effort to find an agent and opportunities in the modeling industry.”

10. Would you recommend Ieko Media to others looking to embrace the ++ experience? “I would encourage any woman of any size to pursue an experience in a photo shoot of this type. It was a very empowering experience and one that would be an invaluable opportunity to any woman.”

2.       Age: 30

3.       Pants size: 8

4.  Why was this shoot important for you? “I recently turned 30 and with that epiphany I realized that now was the time to embrace and perform the things that I have always dreamed of but always found a reason to do later.  This photo shoot was the door to that new beginning. I knew if I could accomplish this photo session then I knew I could tackle any other challenge in my bucket list. I’ve been told that life really starts when you are in your thirties and I want to make sure I take advantage of every moment. This way when another ten years pass by I will be able to look back at this time of my life and know that all my countless adventures and memories began with this decision and moment.”

5.  How was your overall experience? “It was nerve racking and my anxiety level was through the roof, but just like any new adventure the jitters can always get the best of us.  As the photo shoot continued I found myself at ease and began to enjoy the art and emotion behind every picture.  This experience helped me capture the beauty in every model and no matter our size or shape, each individual expressed a sensual sex appeal.  I observed that as women we all had the same insecurities and doubts, but as I saw each of them perform before the camera my interpretation of what society views as beautiful altered.”

6.  What did it mean to you having this shot by Ieko Media? “To be photographed by Ieko Media was such a privilege.  The company’s level of photography is beyond amazing and being able to participate in such a high caliber of photography made me feel exquisite.”

7.  How did it feel doing a nude session for the first time at a shoot that meant so much? “It was intimidating shooting nude at first, but later found it to be exhilarating and empowering.  I am a mother of two beautiful children, so revealing my body was not an easy task.  I found myself embracing the moment and tearing down all negative stereotypes and judgments.  I realized by going through with this photo shoot I would be representing the typical working woman, the mother, the housewife, and I wanted to illustrate that we are sexy and beautiful.”

8.  What is your opinion of the photographer? “The photographer expressed such an eloquence and professionalism in his behavior that one could only help feel at ease knowing that you were in good hands.  The knowledge and passion he exhibited in his craft was breath taking.  It was like watching a composer writing his master piece or a painter gracefully splashing color on a canvas.  I hold a high regard to the photographer and his ability to see beauty where most would not.”

9.  Did you gain any confidence in yourself from this experience? “I can honestly say my confidence reached a new level.  My transformation opened my eyes to new ideas and possibilities.  My hair color was drastically changed from blonde to jet black and I encountered a new perspective and beauty to myself, especially growing up in a culture where the paler your skin was and the lighter your hair determined your level of beauty.”

10.  Would you recommend Ieko Media to others looking to embrace the ++ experience? “I would definitely recommend Ieko Media to others because I know that they are not only receiving quality photos, but an unforgettable memory.”

2.  Why was this shoot important for you?  “This shoot was important to me because it meant something metaphorically and I hope people get that.”

3.  How was your overall experience? “My experience was professionally and artistically great.”

4.  What is your opinion of the photographer? “I look up to the photographer, respect and could learn from him.”

5.  I hope this shoot creates the movement we expect and of course support people to embrace the ++ experience.

4.  Why was this shoot important for you? “To be completely honest I have been wanting to work with Ieko Media for quite some time since last year when a photo shoot was done of a close friend of mine Crystal M, and even when you did the shoot with “Sno tha Product”. For me, in the beginning it was important because I needed to push myself beyond the scoop of just make-up but little did I know what I was in for.”

5.  How was your overall experience? “Initially I was going to back out because I was not going to be working on make-up it was upsetting because I really wanted to showcase my work, but then I after the last reply I got from you it got me to think so I said “What the heck, let’s see what happens; I will just do hair.” I also knew I had extra help with my assistant Yvette and I saw that you needed help with a hairstylist. I went ahead and brought my airbrush gun and some colors that would fit your vision in hopes I could work on the make-up. When I arrived I could see there was a lot of tension because the head stylist was 30-45mins late already. I was then told to work on make-up so that excited me. I asked you question every step of the way at every point to insure I was doing it the way YOU envisioned. Which to be quite honest was very hard. I am use to just doing the make-up without direction. With you I really cared about what you wanted. I coached and instructed my assistant Yvette before we got there and all the way through the shoot. Every time she asked me a question my response was “Check with him, make sure he is happy HE is the one that needs to approve.

My experience was TRULY ONE OF A KIND. I thought at first you were going to be a DIVA. Your work is just so awesome I just ASSUMED you would not be so welcoming, kind, helpful and PATIENT! I was very intimidated by you. Which is out of my character. I just wanted to do the best of my abilities and really bring your vision together and make this happen.”

6.  What did it mean to you having this shot by Ieko Media? “What this meant to me was that if I could do this I could do ANTYTHING! I did not know what to make of your style… Kind of “FACING MY GIANT” I know, I know seems a little weird but I am being honest. To be a part of this shoot in itself showcasing that plus size women are more than just size, really hit close to home. I myself am plus size and all I could see was personalities and just gorgeous women!”

7.  What is your opinion of the photographer? “Jamiel Boling you are ONE OF A KIND! You are a TRUE ARTIST! you make me want to be better than where I am now. You inspire and motivate. Definitely a sponge of knowledge. Very professional I don’t get the “CREEPY PHOTOGRAPHER” vibe LOL!! “

3.  Why was this shoot important for you? “This shoot was important to me because I have never been apart of a professional shoot with a specific focus.”

4.  How was your overall experience? “My overall experience was interesting. I learned very much from Jamiel in terms of what goes on during the “behind the scenes”, and it was great to observe the models.”

Ms Claus came by the studio and ate the cookies that i set out for santa, I was alittle taken back but then she said she wanted to take a photo and well lets just say, she was experienced..lol..Come to find out she in the daughter of the great Santa Claus, and yes i didnt expect ms claus to look like this. Guess she wanted to get out of the cold…
